The New York State Public High School Athletic Association announced
that Albion High School of Section VI in the Niagara Orleans League
has been named a 2007 – 2008 New York Good Sports Award Winner
at the Section level. Representing the district at a Sectional Athletic
Council meeting on September 17, 2008 were Athletic Director, Dick
Diminuco, High School Principal, Mickey Edwards, and student representatives
Rebecca Deegan and Lisa Bierdeman. Albion High School was awarded
a New York Good Sports Plaque at that meeting.
The NYSPHSAA established this award 13 years ago in order to help
promote sportsmanship as a major goal of their organization. The
New York Good Sports program encourages each member school to assess
their district’s approach to developing and encouraging sportsmanship.
The award was developed to recognize schools that have exemplary
sportsmanship programs. It is presented to schools that have developed
proactive approaches to keep sportsmanship in the forefront with
their students, athletes, coaches, spectators, and communities.
Albion was one of four schools in Section VI to receive this recognition.
There are 88 schools in Section VI.
