School Closing Information
In the event of an emergency school closing or delayed opening,
several radio stations will be notified and announcements made on
the air by 7 AM unless there are extenuating circumstances.
Please make a special effort to tune in to these AM and FM radio
stations and/or television stations:
WHAM / WBEN / WBEE / WKLX / WEZO
| Buffalo TV Stations |
Rochester TV Stations |
| Channel 2 (WGRZ) |
Channel 8 (WROC) |
| Channel 4 (WIVB) |
Channel 10 (WHEC) |
| Channel 7 (WKBW) |
Channel 13 (WOKR) |
| |
Channel 14 (R-News) |
Unless there is an announcement, assume school is in session as
usual. Schools may delay opening by one hour in case of inclement
weather, such as fog that is expected to lift. Should an announcement
be made, students can expect buses to pick them up one hour later
than usual. If conditions do not improve as expected, a 7 AM delayed
opening announcement may be followed by an 8 AM school cancellation.
BE PREPARED!
Once school begins, every effort is made to complete the day. If,
however, bad weather or an emergency forces the early closing of
school, it is important that families be prepared. Again, the same
radio stations will be notified and will carry all appropriate announcements.
The following checklist is suggested to prepare you for occasions
when school is dismissed early:
1. Arrange with a neighbor to supervise your child, either by coming
to your house or to meet the school bus.
2. Discuss all arrangements with your child and all others involved
to ensure understanding.
3. If weather is inclement, listen to your radio and be aware of
the possibility of an early school closing.
