Community Service
One of the goals of public education as a whole is to develop good
citizens who are capable of contributing to the betterment of our
society throughout their lives.
As such Albion High School has instituted 30 hours of community
service as part of its graduation requirement.
Through the Community Service Program students not only contribute
directly to their community but also grow as individuals and gain
necessary citizenship skills at the same time. Our Service Learning
Program reinforces the school's commitment to our guiding principles
of Respect, Responsibility, and Optimism.

When are students available?
The requirements began with ninth graders in September 1994. Service
projects take place beyond the school day, weekends, or vacations
unless the student receives prior approval. Students do not begin
their volunteer hours until September of their freshman year.
What can be expected of a volunteer?
1) Total dependability. The student is expected to be at the site
every day agreed upon. If for some reason they have to miss a day,
they are to notify the agency beforehand.
2) High quality performance and attitude. The student/participant
is exposed to services/programs from a civic perspective.
What kinds of things can a student/participant
do?
To the degree possible, students have the opportunity to work directly
with people and take on significant and responsible tasks. However,
any professional job also involves material preparation, clerical
work, etc., and this also may be expected of them. Students must
volunteer at a non-profit agency. They simply cannot work for free
at area businesses or stores.
Are students graded?
Basically, no. Participating agencies are asked to fill out an
evaluation form. Students are awarded a 1/2 credit upon completion
of 30 hours of community service. It is the student's responsibility
to see that all paperwork is submitted to the guidance department.
Where do students/agencies go to get the necessary
forms?
Students/Agencies may print the form from this link. Students must
have both forms completed and return them to the guidance office
before credit is awarded
