high school students who demonstrate excellence in the areas of
Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. These characteristics

National Honor Society (NHS) is an organization that has been active
in Albion for many years. Students with a 90 or above average after
the first 20 weeks of their junior or senior year are invited to
support their candidacy for membership. This consists of filling
out several forms, writing an essay, and obtaining four letters
of recommendation. Membership is granted only to those selected
by the Albion NHS Faculty Council using the information provided
by the candidate in the areas of leadership, service, and character
as well as input gathered from Albion High School faculty, staff,
and administration.
Albion NHS members devote countless hours of service in their school
and community. Some of the service activities NHS members have participated
in over the past several years:
- 150-200 hours of bell ringing for Salvation Army and Ministry
of Concern kettles each year
- Delivering food baskets to needy families through Community
Action
- Creating/delivering Thanksgiving cards to residents at Orleans
County Nursing Home
- Working with special education students on service and service
learning projects (making fleece scarves/blankets for needy and
creating "welcome bags" for incoming freshmen)
- Writing to pen pals in first grade (Albion Elementary School)
- Tutoring/Mentoring program for freshmen
- One-on-one peer tutoring
- Raising funds for American Cancer Society "Daffodil Days",
Hospice of Orleans County and ARC of Orleans County
- Adopting a local family during the holidays
- Selecting, framing and donating district-wide art to Arc of
Orleans County
The NHS advisor is Mrs. Susan Preston, high school
English teacher.
