Research
tells us that organizations, just like people, go through stages of development.
ASCD is a well-established school organization with very specific traits that
have evolved throughout the years; one could say that the school district is in
adulthood. In order to stay fresh and energized in this stage we need to take
time to review our commitments and reflect on our strengths and areas in need
of growth.
We
renewed our fundamental purpose which is to work collectively to impact student
learning. The foundation of our work is in the words of a new vision, mission
and value statements.
The following general directions drive the district's
work; insure equal access to improve student learning; improve communication with
all members of the ACS community; foster and develop the growth of the whole child;
establish and maintain a safe and secure environment; and enhance the professional
development of all members of the learning community.
The hallmark of
a quality organization is a desire to continually improve. All of our practices,
policies and procedures are examined and assessed on the basis of their impact
on student learning.

Strategic Plan
By Mary Leto, Director of Learning and Instruction
WHAT
ARE THE BENEFITS OF STRATEGIC PLANNING?
Strategic planning is creating
a vision for the future and working towards common goals with high expectations.
It’s operating under a mission statement that focuses the organization’s efforts.
It is an effective process for aligning our short-term decisions with our long-term
goals. Strategic plans are also considered necessary in assisting districts in
monitoring progress for Federal and State Grants. Strategic planning answers the
following three big questions:
WHO
WAS INCLUDED IN THE STRATEGIC PLAN?
All individuals concerned with
public education were invited to participate in the strategic process: parents,
community members, educators, students and support staff.
HOW
HAVE WE ASSESSED OUR “CURRENT REALITY”?
