The
mission statement of the Ronald L. Sodoma Elementary School is to strive to enable
all students to learn the skills, acquire the knowledge and develop the attitudes
necessary for them to reach their full potential as citizens who can meet the
challenges of a changing society in the 21st century.The
school continually strives to meet the goals of the mission statement in the following
ways: -
Literacy is a major focus. The language arts curriculum blends classroom instruction
with computer technology. Six Traits Plus One, CCC Computer Programs, and the
Accelerated Reader program are major components. We also provide reading enrichment
and remediation both during and outside of school
- The
Media Center, with its bank of computers for book searches, research and development
of fundamental computer literacy skills, is a central focus
- Students
with special needs are provided services in an integrated setting, including a
life skills program
- An
active BLT (Building Leadership Team) comprised of parents, administration, teachers,
and support staff offers a shared decision making process
- A
half day Pre-kindergarten, and a full day Kindergarten.
- PACE
(Problem Solving Activities and Creative Endeavors) program challenges the advanced
student with special programs
- Extended
day opportunities for children (before school chorus and band programs, before
school reading/math programs)
- Extensive
volunteer program (200+ parents, senior citizens, community, student volunteers).
- Active
PTA (Parent Teacher Association)
- School
bookstore organized by fourth graders
- Pioneer
Day and Native American Day at 4th grade
- Science
Day and DARE program at 5th grade
- Schoolwide
Optimism Day
- Home/school
coordinator provides assistance to families
- Community

etc.)

Both
New York State and standardized test scores indicate that the Elementary School
is meeting the challenge of educating its students for the 21st century.
