computers in the working environment is essential. One of the
ways to gain this competency is by taking a course that is “Totally
Computer Related”. Computer Applications allows each student
to gain a high degree of knowledge in the areas of: MS Word XP,
MS Excel XP, MS Access XP and MS Publisher. This course incorporates
the most up-to-date, educational materials available for every
student. We have found that the skills and knowledge learned in
Computer Applications has successfully prepared all students for
entry-level positions, and for many, employment that carries greater
responsibility, leadership and decision-making skills –
which will lead to a greater income. You will find that this course
may be the most imperative high school course you will ever take.

FUNDAMENTALS OF BUSINESS

Are you looking for an exciting course that tackles issues such
as current business topics, types of business organizations and
economic systems, as well as personal financial planning, this
course is for you. Along with those major topics you will also
be made aware of decision-making skills, economics, management
styles, investment securities, banking, money management and taxes.
Making wise decisions and establishing short and long-term goals
are essential “life skills” that young people need
to know. This course is a must for anyone pursuing a career in
business or making sure you have the skills needed to succeed
in your personal life. (This course will be offered during

ACCOUNTING I
1 CREDIT
Accounting is so much a part of our business lives that accounting
has been called the “Language of Business.” Accounting
had been designed to serve the needs of all students who are considering
a career in business or who would like an introduction to the
fundamentals of accounting. Content focuses on the basics of financial
analysis for sole proprietorships and partnerships. Through integrated
software applications, students will develop an understanding
of accounting information systems and build a strong foundation
in basic procedures. Accounting I provides an introduction to
the keeping of business and financial records. Students learn
the entire accounting cycle using the double-entry system. This
cycle includes journal, ledgers, trial balance, financial statements
and closing. The course also covers payroll, bad debts, depreciation
and inventory methods. Students supplement manual accounting with
computer problems.

E-COMMERCE
1 CREDIT
Nearly all of today’s business activities are created through
the use of “E-COMMERCE”. This new course provides
insight on how business is conducted over the Internet using applications
that rely on the Internet. This commerce can be between two businesses
(B2B) or between a business and a consumer (B2C). This course
provides an overview of “Electronic Commerce.” Business
models underlying e-commerce are studies and information is presented
with a balanced approach between business analysis, marketing,
network technology, and web site development.

SMALL BUSINESS OWNERSHIP
1 CREDIT
Have you ever dreamed of owning and operating your own business?
Would you like to be a decision maker and a boss? In this course,
students will individually select an idea for a new business and
create a plan for success. Market research is used to determine
the location and product/service mix. A business plan is developed
to describe the organization, marketing strategies, and financial
requirements of the new business.

BUSINESS LAW
1 CREDIT
Business Law can be a valuable elective course for students outside
the business curriculum as well as for business majors. Students
learn to understand their legal rights, privileges, and responsibilities
as consumers, employees and citizens. Topics include contracts,
insurance, real estate, credit, wills and inheritance, the employment
contract, and landlord-tenant law. Student notebooks are highly
recommended. Daily assignments are given in text or workbook.
Class discussion of legal concepts is stressed. This course is
only open to juniors and seniors. (This course will be
offered during the 2009-2010 school year)
MAT420
FINANCIAL LITERACY/BUSINESS MATH
1 CREDIT
Financial Literacy is a course in applied mathematics for business
and consumer use. It is designed to increase students’ skills
and awareness about personal finance and investments. Personal
finance topics include checking/savings accounts, stocks and bonds,
mutual funds, credit, insurance, taxes, job benefits, home ownership,
auto ownership, college financial, marriage and divorce, retirement
and estate planning. Additionally, students will learn about business
topics such as payroll, bankruptcy, depreciation, purchasing and
pricing merchandise, manufacturing costs, distributing business
profits and financial statements. This course can count as one
math credit or one science credit.

ANIMATION
1 CREDIT
The course will combine art and academics in an engaging learning
environment while immersing students in science, math, language,
arts and technology. Students will be introduced to a project-focused
curriculum that encourages teamwork, planning and thoughtful execution
as students use visual communication tools and techniques to explore
specific topics and present what they have learned. Students should
have taken CAD prior to Animation. (This course will be
offered during the 2009-2010 school year.)
