FOODS AND NUTRITION

This course will cover the basic foundations of food preparation
with many hands-on experiences related to food and nutrition.
The students will explore dietary guidelines which promote long-term
wellness, as well as, plan, prepare, serve, and evaluate a wide
variety of foods.

INTERNATIONAL FOODS
1/2 CREDIT
International Foods will introduce students to the concept of
the American “melting pot”. Through this course the
students will explore a variety of cultures and specific foods
and preparation techniques.
HCS321
HOUSING AND ENVIRONMENT
1/2 CREDIT
This course is designed to familiarize students with housing design
and the personal and environmental factors which must be considered
when making housing designs. Students will learn about exterior
and interior design and how to care for the home. Careers related
to housing, household management and interior design will be explored.
(May be used as an Art Credit)
HCS322
INTRODUCTION TO SEWING
1/2 CREDIT
Introduction to sewing will be studied as it is related to clothing.
Basic principles of sewing will be explained and the students
will have the opportunity to apply these principles to a variety
of activities, including a final sewing project. (May be used
as an Art Credit) Students are responsible for purchasing
supplies and materials for their individual projects.
HCS221
CHILD DEVELOPMENT
1 CREDIT
The purpose of this course is to help students recognize the many
responsibilities of parenthood and to understand factors which
should be considered when making a decision about entering into
parenthood. All areas of growth, the pleasures and responsibilities
of parenting, and observation of children of all ages will be
included in the course. A 72-hour responsibility of caring for
Baby-Think-It-Over is also required.
