Computer Course Description

CMP121
COMPUTER PROGRAMMING
1 CREDIT
Java is an introductory course in Object Oriented Programming. JAVA is the programming language of the internet and SUN Microsystems and is the industry standard. This course is part of the expanding Cisco Sponsored Curriculum and as such involves hands-on programming experiences as well as a detailed online curriculum and evaluation system. This course leads to an optional SUN Microsystems JAVA 2 Certification exam and possibly AP Computer Science Credit. A fee is required for both exams. At home access to the internet is recommended, but after school hours will be available if needed. The programming language, SUN Microsystems JAVA 2, and editor BLUE JAY, are available for student download at no cost.

COMPUTER SCIENCE MST
1 CREDIT (MST)
In this class you will be completing an MST project in computer science. This is an independent project class and most of your time will be involved in the research and development of a project. The project will involve one technology standard and one Math or one Science standard. Possible projects include (but are not limited to) artificial intelligence, natural language processing, physics based simulations, data base management as applied to science research, history of computer technology or languages. The science department MST project will be the basis for this MST project as well. Students must participate in the MST Fair for credit.

CMP321
FUNDAMENTALS OF WEB DESIGN
1 CREDIT
The Fundamentals of Web Design course is designed to give students an introductory and exploratory opportunity of the basic developmental process of web site design. The class covers design elements, navigation and business aspects such as, site management and client interaction. Students will be encouraged to express their ideas with assignments, projects and tests and are encouraged to seek outside resources such as the Internet and Web design resources to aid them in the learning process. The majority of the course work is done on the computer. This is a course for self-motivated students with the ability to work independently.

CMP600
CISCO I LANS AND ROUTING
1 CREDIT (7 GCC Credits)
This course is designed to provide students with the skills needed to install basic small office or home office computer networks, including cabling of networks, installation, and configuration of basic network devices. They will also gain required knowledge to understand more complex Local Area Networks (LAN) design and topologies. By registering with GCC, students who achieve a 70 or higher in the course can receive seven college credits.

CMP610
CISCO II WANS AND SWITCHING
1 CREDIT (6 GCC Credits)
This course is the sequel to Cisco I and will cover the more advanced topics of network design, including commercial connections to the internet via T1/T3, ISDN, DSL, and CABLE broadband connections. It also covers advanced fully switched network fabrics, common in large computer network installations. Upon completion of this course, students will be prepared to take the Cisco CCNA certification exam. This is the most sought after certification in the networking industry. By registering with GCC, students who achieve a 70 or higher in the course can receive six college credits.

TCH320
CAD I
1 CREDIT (3 GCC Credits)
This course is designed to encourage visual problem-solving using a common graphic language to describe forms in the man-made environment. To enable students to analyze, creatively design and critically evaluate these objects, the course requires research for historical precedents, cultural references and future visions. This course will also fulfill the art/music requirement. By registering with GCC, students who achieve a 70 or higher in the course can receive three college credits.

TCH420
CAD II
1 CREDIT
A continued exploration of the topics introduced in CAD I (DDP) with additional areas to be covered. Prerequisite: CAD I (DDP).

STE420
CAD LANDSCAPING
1 CREDIT
This course will take what students have previously learned in AutoCAD I and apply it to everyday life and modern day Landscaping. Students should take CAD I before CAD Landscaping.
