was elected the 2007 - 2008 NYS FFA President at the 82nd annual New York State
FFA Convention, which was held at Albion High School on May 3-5, 2007. It is the
first time a member from the Albion FFA chapter has been elected to this position.
Anna served as District 9 president during the 2006 - 2007 school year. Amanda
Flansburg, also an Albion FFA member, will be the new 2007 - 2008 District 9 president.
Senator
Schumer addressed students at the convention and praised them for their dedication
to FFA and to agriculture throughout New York State. He commended all farmers
for not only producing food but for being a leader of American values such as
team work, understanding, and hard work, which is one of the things that in his
opinion keeps this country great.
The
Albion FFA chapter hosted this event. Albion is one of the oldest chapters in
NYS and has been active for 80 years. It is comprised of 60 students and advised
by Mr. Adam Krenning. The
students worked on this project for a full year and helped make the convention
a huge success. 1042 students represented sixty-seven FFA chapters from all over
New York. This is the largest number of students that have ever attended the convention.
Students participated in competitions, meetings, awards ceremonies, local tours,
and social events.
Over
100 students attending the convention volunteered at the first ever "Day
of Service" at Bullard Park. The park is located in the village of Albion
and is frequented by many children and families. Students from several chapters
cleared debri, worked on trails, painted murals on bathrooms, made picnic tables
and bird houses, refurbished and painted playground equipment, worked on the softball
field, and painted benches, shelters and buildings.
