The
middle school is the recipient of a five-year grant called 21st Century Community
Learning Center Grant (received spring 2004). Funding is from the New York State
Education Department. The purpose of the grant is to improve student academic
performance.
One
of the biggest components of the grant is to provide extended day, week and year
programming. Academic intervention services in English and math, homework clubs,
science and Spanish exam preparation clubs are offered to students after school.
Saturday morning enrichment programs are planned for students to participate in
activities they don't have time to do (or have limited time but high interest)
during the school day. Some activities are: non-competitive sports, multi media
club, snowshoeing, cooking, science experiments and art.
Classes
designed for parents are planned each school year. The classes are in response
to a survey parents filled out during open house on classes they would be interested
in attending.
