Each
year students that are nominated by their teachers and peers participate in a
training developed by the nationally acclaimed Safe School Ambassador program.
The students learn how to identify bullying incidents and diffuse the situation
before it escalates. Staff members work with the ambassadors throughout the school
year as a mentors for them to discuss how they handled situations and to give
them regular encouragement and suggestions. For further information on the Safe
Schools program, go to their website at www.safeschoolambassadors.org

The
Olweus Bullying Prevention Program is implemented throughout the building. This
is a internationally recognized, comprehensive program that provides interventions
at the individual, classroom, school, and community levels. Parents are involved
throughout the entire process as well. For more information about the Olweus Bullying
Prevention Program visit the website at www.clemson.edu/olweus.
In
addition, hall monitors are placed in each hall to provide extra supervision in
response to student reports on the survey that bullying is most likely to occur
in the hallways. The hall monitors continue this school year.
