A highlight of the eighth grade curriculum is to participate in the Civil War Day Project. This interdisciplinary program emerses students in the Civil War Age. Some activities students engage in leading up to this day are: Math: estimation of distance and trajectory of student marshmallow launchers; Science: physical and emotional effects of war on the body; Social Studies: causes and effects of the war.

The culminating activity lets students experience life during the Civil War. Students participate in programs outside during the day (held in the fall). Activities may include: presentations about military/battle tactics; food and preparation; medicine and how soldiers with wounds were treated; social activities/types of music and dance of the time period; student reinactment of a battle; and more.
