Sixth
Graders Present Flag Day
Program for the Community
Middle
school students from Team 600 presented a June 14th flag day program for their
community on the court house steps. The middle school band played a selection
of patriotic songs and members of the chorus sang "God Bless the USA."
Students handed out fliers with facts about the flag and how to treat it with
respect. They also gave the audience books that the students created called Peace
Rocks - The ABC's of Kindness. Students challenged the audience to be peaceful
citizens and help their fellow neighbors. Mr. Bonafede, Board of Education President,
closed the program by dedicating 41 US Flags to the community. The flags are flying
throughout the downtown area and were funded by the NYS Learn and Serve America
program.

Dr. Mustafa, a naturalized citizen, addressed the crowd. He shared that America
has always been a nation of immigrants and he is a recent immigrant. He said he
is happy he lives in the peaceful community of Albion where he can give back to
this country as a doctor and serve the people of Albion. He encouraged students
not to take for granted the opportunities they have, make something of themselves
and to leave the world a better place. He also said the American flag should inspire
and comfort everyone to continue to make America the open, welcoming, vibrant
and inherently fair place that he has found it to be.
