For the second year in a row, Nate Grammatico has been selected as on alternate for a seat in the NYSSMA All-State Jazz Ensemble.

This 17-piece ensemble is comprised of only the very best high school jazz musicians in the entire state, and, as an alto sax player, Nate was gunning for one of just two spots in the band.

Two years in a row now, Nate has received a perfect 100 on his All-State audition and been named an alternate, which just shows how tough the competition.

AHS Band Director, Mr. Thaine, said, "There are only two alto sax spots available for the entire state, so the talent-level is just out of this world.  The competition includes kids from rural schools like our's, large suburban districts, city schools, even kids that attend Arts Academies in NYC.  There are no divisions based on school size like there is in athletics at the state-level....it's every student for himself."

The fact that Grammatico has twice been named an alternate to one of those two seats is something we should be very proud of, Thaine said.  "Nate's name is included among the top 4 or 5 high school, alto sax, jazzers in the state!"
