Class of 2020

July 23, 2020 Update from Mrs. Ashbery

Dear 2020 Graduates,

I recently sent out a survey requesting input regarding the possible live graduation ceremony on July 31st. Thank you to everyone who sent back their response. The majority of the surveys returned indicated a “no” response to having a ceremony at this point. As such, we will not move forward with planning the event.

I wish each of you the best as you move on toward your next chapter, whether it be continuing your education, entering the work force or military to serve our country. I am so proud of each of you and know you will take your Purple Eagle pride with you as you make your mark in the world. You are ready!

Congratulations and best wishes.

July 17, 2020 Update from Mrs. Ashbery

Dear 2020 Graduates,

I hope this email finds you and your family healthy. As you know, the Senior Prom was rescheduled for August 6th. We have been in continuous communication with the venue, Hickory Ridge, as they awaited guidelines for hosting events at their location. This week it was communicated to us by Hickory Ridge that they, and other venues, cannot exceed a maximum of 50 individuals for an event, such as the prom. We reached out to several other venues and were told the same information. This was also confirmed with the Orleans County Health Department this morning. As such, the 2020 Senior Prom must be cancelled based on the New York State limit on the size of group gatherings. Please know that we are saddened to cancel the event due to the restrictions in place, but know that your health and safety are crucial as you embark on your next chapter as Albion graduates.

If you have any questions, please contact me at the high school main office. I will be sending additional information regarding the possible live graduation ceremony on Monday, July 20th.

June 25, 2020 Update from Mrs. Ashbery

Video Program

The Class of 2020 graduation video is complete and ready to be aired on Friday, June 26th at 8:20pm. Thank you to our students and families for their support of this ceremony. While it was not our typical walk across the stage, the individual time with family created a special memory for each student.

Live Graduation Ceremony

If the Governor’s restrictions and Health Department guidelines permit, we will hold an in-person graduation ceremony on Friday, July 31, 2020. This was the most popular choice according to the survey results. More information will be shared as we plan, again, according to the guidelines available.

Parade

The Class of 2020 Campus Parade is tomorrow. Be sure to read through the details below. I’m looking forward to seeing each of you tomorrow evening!

  • Graduates will line up in the upper middle school parking lot at 6:30pm on Friday, June 26, 2020. Family members are encouraged to ride along with their graduate.
  • The parade will begin at 7:00pm.
  • Caps and gowns are not required.

The parade route:

  • Students will exit the middle school driveway, turning right.
  • They will continue on East Avenue and turn right onto Clarendon Road.
  • Vehicles will enter the elementary school driveway and travel along the colored pencils.
  • A right turn will lead students toward the tennis courts where they will turn left into the front circle of the high school.
  • Finally, students will turn right and park in the back parking lot of the high school.

All participants must stay in their vehicle.

Teachers and staff members will be standing on the curb side at each building.

Graduates, please decorate your car. This is a celebration and a great opportunity to show your strong school spirit. Be sure to include a sign with your name and your future plans.

We expect the event to end at 7:30, allowing time for everyone to return home to watch (via the District You Tube Channel) the premier of the graduation program video compiled from individual stage walks and prerecorded speeches.  This video will debut at 8:20 (2020 hours--the significance of that time) that evening. Look for the YouTube link in the red banner on the district’s webpage.

Senior Prom

The Senior Prom has been rescheduled for Thursday, August 6, 2020. This event is subject to the Governor’s restrictions and Health Department guidelines. Mrs. Winans and the Senior class officers have been working on the details and are communicating with the venue, Hickory Ridge, in preparation for the event. More information will be sent via the Class of 2020 email, so be sure to continue to check your email throughout the next several weeks.

Please contact me at the high school main office with any questions (589-2040).

Friday Update - Class of 2020 Events

June 19, 2020

Live Graduation Ceremony

We are finishing up the survey of dates for the possible live ceremony. Once the date is confirmed, it will be shared via the weekly update to school email accounts as well as the district website.

Video Program

The final set of individual graduation recordings are scheduled for Saturday, June 20th. These ceremonies have truly been a wonderful experience for each family. If you are scheduled for Saturday, please note the reminders below.

Each graduate is welcome to invite up to 20 additional guests (per the Executive Order made on Tuesday, June 16, 2020) . Several students have reached out with questions about additional guests. We continue to follow the regulations. However, if you have additional guests that would like to celebrate with you after you are finished, they are welcome to wait outside. The 2020 sign is on the front lawn. This provides a great opportunity for photos with extended guests. However, we ask that large groups not congregate, in accordance with the Governor’s directives still in effect.

When you walk across the stage at your appointment, you will receive the diploma cover without the actual diploma inside. Your diploma will be completed once grades are finalized in the coming week. Information regarding obtaining your diploma will be available in next Friday’s update.

Class Night

Today, June 19th, we will hold our traditional Class Night ceremony at 7:00pm. This will be a virtual event that can be viewed via the Albion Central School District YouTube page. For ease in access, please click on the link provided in the red banner at the top of the district website home page. Your class officers have planned a special ceremony to celebrate and recognize the achievements of the members of the Class of 2020. The Senior Scholarship recipients will be announced during the live, virtual ceremony.

June 5, 2020 Friday Update from Mrs. Ashbery (This email was sent to seniors)

Live Graduation Ceremony

A Google form was sent to each Senior today.  In the event we are able to hold a live graduation ceremony later in the summer, we would like your input in planning the date. The Google form survey includes three dates (July 31st, August 8th and August 14th) for you to rank according to your preference (1 being most preferred date to 3 being least preferred). Please complete the Google form by Tuesday, June 16th. I appreciate your input.

Video Program

The details for the video program are coming together nicely. In the next couple of days you will receive an email for a link to an online scheduling calendar. You will follow the directions listed to schedule your 15 minute time slot to come into the school dressed in your cap and gown. Photos by Bruce will be here to take the traditional graduation photo. There will also be an option to have a family photo taken, which will be available for purchase through Photos by Bruce.  After the photo we will move into the gymnasium where we will record each graduate walking across the stage to receive their diploma. Family members are encouraged to take their own photographs, just as you would during the live ceremony.

If you are not able to access the online scheduling, please call the high school main office at 589-2040. We will help you get scheduled into a time slot. I’m looking forward to seeing each of you to celebrate this important event.

Parade

Discussions continue to take shape around the June 26th parade for Seniors and their immediate family members, who are welcome to ride along. Students are encouraged to decorate their vehicle as they choose. We would love to see a sign with your name and future plans as part of the decorations. Our staff is excited to celebrate your success!

May 28, 2020 Update from Michael Bonnewell

Dear Seniors:

The Coronavirus Pandemic has impacted the entire world and has especially done so for the Class of 2020.  This is not the end of your school career that any of us envisioned for you…and I wish that there were some way that we could change it so that we could be back together and that we could celebrate you and your entire school career in our traditional ways!

I want to compliment you on your selection of class officers.  They have represented you very well, taking part in regular meetings including one earlier today with your Advisor, Mrs. Winans, Principal Mrs. Ashbery, and me giving feedback, sharing information they have heard, and offering ideas to celebrate you!

Together we have developed a plan for the end of the year, to celebrate you and your accomplishments.  We are aware that the plan may need to change further, as the state standards governing activities do or do not change.

Prom

The Prom has been rescheduled to August 6, 2020.  This is the latest date that Hickory Ridge had available before those who are leaving the area in the Fall would likely be available.  Please note, even this date for the Prom is contingent upon state restrictions.

Class Night

Class Night will be held as scheduled on Friday, June 19 at 7 pm but it will be a ceremony livestreamed on the District’s YouTube site.  (A link will be placed on the District website a week before the event.)  Scholarships and awards earned that night will be sent to you following the event.

Caps and Gowns

We are working with Josten’s to finalize the distribution of the caps and gowns.

Graduation

  • Parade - On Friday, June 26 (the original graduation date) we will celebrate our graduates with a campus parade and lighting ceremony.  This parade will be a variation of the traditional Purple Eagle Seniors walking parade. To comply with current restrictions, everyone will participate in the parade in their vehicles.  Campus will be lit up in your honor.
  • Video Program - In addition, we will prepare a video ceremony with copies distributed to all students.  Students and a limited number of immediate family members (subject to the state’s rules) will come to school at a selected time, wear their cap and gown, receive their diploma, and walk across the graduation stage.  This moment will be compiled in the video ceremony.
  • Live Ceremony- Finally, if state restrictions permit, we will schedule a live graduation ceremony, subject to the state rules at the time, later this summer.  Because this will be a new date, we will reach out to you again for input on possible dates for this event.

With our plans taking shape and our group meeting weekly, we will use your albionk12.org email account to provide you with any updates on senior events each Friday.  The same information will be posted on the District’s COVID information page in the Important Links box.

We miss seeing you each day but look forward to seeing you again soon and celebrating all that you have accomplished as Purple Eagles!
