Charlee Character Award

Elementary students Charlee Voorhees and Bailey Elliott were recognized during the Board of Education meeting held on Tuesday, October 3 for receiving the Character and Leadership Awards, respectively.

Below are the comments  that Mr. Steier and Ms. Faraci had regarding Bailey and what Mrs. Simpson had when nominating Charlee:

Mr. Steier states, “The student that I am nominating for the Leadership award is Bailey Elliott. I have selected Bailey because not only is she enthusiastic about coming to school and getting her work done, but she also, without even being asked, is willing to take any student that needs
help under her wing and work through anything that they may find difficult. Bailey has also taken it upon herself to guide her groups in discussion during ELA making sure everyone understands what is being read and talked about in the group discussion before moving forward with her group.  Bailey is a great example of what a student leader should be.”

Ms. Faraci also wrote, “Having only been Bailey's math teacher for a short few weeks, I have already noticed what a compassionate and responsible girl she is. She has shown kindness and a willingness to help classmates in different ways, but her strong character shines through when she patiently helps classmates who may be frustrated or confused.  She does this
without being asked, and in a quiet, gentle manner that does not draw attention to her or the classmate she is helping.  We are fortunate to have her in our class! She is on her way to a future as a natural leader.”

Mrs. Simpson states, “When I think of Character, I think of an individual who shows patience, kindness, determination, and independence.  It can sometimes be difficult to recognize a student who displays these traits at the beginning of first grade.  However, Charlee Voorhees is a perfect example of this and so much more.  Miss Charlee walks into our classroom daily with the biggest smile on her face.  The minute she steps in the door, she is greeting peers from all around with a friendly smile and cheerful' hello. '

She has always been one I can count on to be ready for instruction, raises her hand when needing something, and most importantly, helps those around her all on her own.  I have witnessed Charlee leaning over to her peers when they are struggling, and giving them the boost of confidence and help they need.  When receiving a new student this week, she was the
first to run up to her and welcome her with open arms to our class.  She then invited the new student to sit next to her for our morning meeting and helped comfort those first day jitters.  Many students have recognized Charlee's acts of kindness, and have started demonstrating them more themselves.

Charlee is one of the sweetest students I've had the privilege of teaching. She works hard, cares for others unconditionally, and isn't afraid of making mistakes and trying harder the second time.  Keep up the great work Charlee!  I can't wait to watch you achieve and celebrate your accomplishments throughout your school career."
