A group of Albion Middle School eighth-grade students recently spent a full day touring notable Orleans County historical and governmental sites.
The tour included stops at the Mt. Albion Cemetery chapel, the Pratt Opera House, GAR room, County Clerk’s office, County Court House and dome, and the Orleans County Historian’s office.
Investigating the County’s bicentennial celebration, pioneer living and architecture, property deeds, abstracts and licensing, and the current court system and procedures, students learned the value of appreciating their rich local history and becoming responsible and participatory citizens in their own time.
Thank you to the following local leaders who shared a wealth of knowledge with our students including Judge Sanford Church, District Attorney Susan Howard, County Clerk Nadine Hanlon, County Historian Catherine Cooper, Associate Court Attorney Kathy Harling, NYS Court officers, and downtown Albion Pratt and Day buildings owner Mike Bonafede.
