Albion High School students had a hand in ensuring 4,500 meals are ready for local distribution in the coming months. On Oct. 29, students in Interact Club spent time volunteering at the Foodlink warehouse in Rochester where they sorted food supplies for local programs and food-insecure families throughout Western New York. They sorted through six pallets of canned goods; over 5,400 lbs. of food.

“Being part of the Interact Club has shown us how important it is to put others before ourselves,” said club member Brooke Doty. “It’s an amazing feeling knowing our hard work is making a difference for families in our community.”

This is not the only Foodlink initiative Albion students got involved with this school year. In September, Interact Club members assisted the Community Action of Orleans & Genesee, a Foodlink partner, in assembling boxes of food for over 200 local families in need. Students plan to continue to support distribution efforts throughout the school year, as they’ve done the previous 17 years.

Sponsored by Albion Rotary Club, Interact Club brings together students to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. The Albion High School club has 30 members this year.

Foodlink is a Rochester-based nonprofit organization that provides food assistance through the safe storage and distribution of emergency food to its network of food bank members and community partners. With a ten-county service area, volunteers are crucial to the success of the food bank.
