Albion Central School District recognized its retiring employees and announced the 2025-26 Educator of the Year ahead of the June 1 Board of Education meeting.

The annual ceremony and reception began by recognizing and thanking three departing Board members for their years of service; David Sidari (26 1/2), Trellis Pore (5), and Kurt Schmitt (6).

Thirteen retirees were then honored for their dedication to ACS.

  • From the District Office, Laura Simboli (District Treasurer, 11 years).

  • From the Technology Department, Gregory Staines (Computer Specialist, 16 years).

  • From the Elementary School, Beth Dunn (Teacher Aide, 25 years), Robert Epperson (1st Grade Teacher, 27 years), Philip Gardner (2nd Grade Teacher, 29 years), Dana Martin - (5th Grade Teacher, 29 years), Theresa McClellan (Speech Teacher, 27 years), and Terri Monacelli (Teacher Aide, 31 years).

  • From the Middle School, Greg Martillotta (Instrumental Music Teacher, 31 years) and Lee Sheehan (6th Grade Teacher, 18 years).

  • From the High School, Shelly Daggs (Math Teacher, 28 years), Jay Kovaleski (Physical Education Teacher, 22 years), and Ann Sentiff (Science Teacher, 10 years).

The district congratulates and wishes the best to all of this school year's retirees and sincerely thanks them for a combined 304 years of service, commitment and contributions to Albion schools. They have left a lasting impact on generations of Albion students.

Also celebrated at the reception was Donald Adams who was named Albion's 2026 Educator of the Year. Nominated by fellow staff members and parents of his students, this honor is bestowed upon an exemplary educator who strives to demonstrate Albion's mission, vision and core values.

Mr. Adams began his teaching career at Albion in 1993 as a part-time Physical Education Teacher and part-time Lifeguard, later transitioning to a full-time Elementary School Physical Education Teacher in 1994.

Throughout his time at Albion, Mr. Adams has exemplified excellence in education. He has consistently gone above and beyond in his classroom, differentiating physical education instruction to meet the needs of a diverse range of learners. In addition to his work in the classroom, he serves as a dedicated teacher, coach, and mentor both on and off the field.

"Whether in the classroom, on the field, or throughout the community, Don is a constant positive presence who demonstrates respect, compassion, and genuine care for all students, faculty, staff, and community members," said Mickey Edwards, Superintendent. "His character, leadership, and commitment have made a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to work and learn alongside him."

The District congratulates Mr. Adams on this well-deserved recognition and thanks him for his outstanding contributions throughout his 33 years at Albion schools.
