Our second grade teachers created a fun initiative to get students to read more as each class went head-to-head in the reading olympics, coinciding with the 2022 Winter Olympics being held in Beijing.
For two weeks, students were encouraged to read and earn points in Accelerated Reader. Once the points were tallied, three students from each class received medals for effort and the highest points earners from each class over the two week period were also recognized in an awards ceremony.
Mrs. Keller’s class won the event with 258.4 total points. Mrs. Kovaleski’s class earned the silver medal with 248.4 points and Mr. Gardner’s class won bronze with 233.6 points. In all, second graders achieved more than 1,000 points in Accelerated Reader over the two week span.
